In a recent conversation with a few folks it was brought up that the term “Common Sense” isn’t really applicable.

Since if it was common sense, most people wouldn’t have to be reminded of that fact.

Example:

Person A starts walking across a busy intersection without looking both ways and almost gets hit by an oncoming car.

Bystander A says to Bystander B, “Doesn’t Person A know that they should look both ways before crossing the road, isn’t that common sense?”

If it was common, that Person A wouldn’t have crossed the road without looking, so I propose that instead of using the term common sense to define something everyone should know, I’m going to start saying UNcommon sense. Because the reality is, most people need a lot of uncommon sense…
